Hello again guys, about 7 or 8 months ago, or even more, i was chatting away on here getting overly excited because i WAS on the brink of buying a 306 HDI, ready to get out of my little Citroen ZX, however, that never happened. i have recently bought a Bora Tdi tho (will try and get pics up soon) i have quite a few things in mind on what i want to do to the car

I am about to buy some coilovers and droplinks, as i want to lower it 40mm+

I was thinking maybe the Mk5 Golf GTi alloys resprayed into a darker gun metal or even black. (think i have seen only a handfull of mk4's of whom have fitted these alloys)

Re-map, (anoyone suggestions or good deals as my friend wants to re-map his saab 2.0 turbo as well and maybe could get more money off if we both went :) )

And eventually a FMIC, which will not only look mean but will be more than essential for increase power :)

Just a few questions, does anyone know what fitting a FMIC on a mk4 is like?

and also, when lowering the bora, it has an engine cover that scoops really low to the ground (it even scrapes over little bumps now, and its not lowered) would taking it off be harmfull to the engine, or does anyone know if they can be replaced or raised etc??

Help would be really appreciated,

Thanks...

Rob

Ah I like the Bora, smart looking car that, esp in black ;) I'm sure another VAG owner can help you out Rob :)

VAGs seem to respond really well to remaps so yeah I bet it's brilliant! Hoping mine's going to come through as RS Tuning have just announced they can map it :)

My engine is the 115 with 210lb/ft of torque. is reasonably sharp, but unless you get the gearing spot on, you will feel the lack in power, surprisingly my insurance as an 18 year old was really cheap, about £800, which i think is good. :)

I know what will help with those unforgiving gears easily. Get a 2.5" turbo-back exhaust :) I recently got one and it's amazing. I can accelerate well from 40mph in 5th gear now and use 4th gear realistically down to 25mph.

Powerspeed in Kent were brilliant. Do a search for them on here to find my write up from the day :)

Rob, what insurance company is that with and are there any catches? (like a million quid excess?)
I'm looking at cars for my son, but anything more than a hairdryer engine is crippling for insurance!

I have mine with Elephant, they seem reasonable. I'm 22 and no-one else would touch me on the beemer.

Bora wise, PD115 is a good engine. Get yourself an Allard Front mount intercooler, and a Green Cotton air filter then set about ditching the cat and having a 2.5" system put on it; then get yourself over to RS Tuning in leeds for a full dyno map - my friend ran that spec in his Golf and it flew!

I'm with Elephant too. They were by far the cheapest with mods declared. Even compared to the popular mod insurers like Adrian Flux.

Exactly as JP says, that'll get you some serious improvement. Not just power but it'll drive so much better with just the 2.5" alone!

Have a read thru' some of the topics on here:-

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/57.aspx

Upping the power of the 115pd is well documented on there. There is also a MK4 wheel gallery which may help you decide on which alloys look best on your Bora.
