just wounded if an1 could help, when i accelerate and get to the top of my revs, roughly 3,200 the car develops a ticking/tapping noise from the engine. It doesn't do it on idle if i rev only when driving? any1 any ideas?

Edit: i have noticed today that actually the noise develops from around 2,400 revs??

at 32,000 revs the conrods are stretching so far they are hitting the head, never mind the valves that don't properly close anymore ;)

seriously, I think it's because the injection system starts using 1 contimous injection around that time, no more pre-ignition....

well, at low loads and low rpm, the hdi system does multiple injections per cycle, to stop the pinking noise you're describing...

when the injection quantity gets to large to be injected in 2 times (high load and/or high rpm) the system drops the first injection and does only one bigger one...

also, around 3000 rpm the egr-valve gets shut no matter what the loading on the engine is... this has an impact on the sound aswell...

o rite i understand, so its normal are you saying? it just doesn't sound like it should be like that. I have disconnected the EGR valve today but i haven't noticed any difference.

Sounds like you need new injectors :(

I have seen this a few times now, they start to pink when the pre-injection is stopped at 3100 rpm.

Get a tester on it and see the flow correction on them. They tend to be rather high when they are work.

i have exactly the same thing on an 05 plate 1.6tdci focus. From 1500rpm onwards you can here a very slight diesel knock type noise which you have to listen out for and is a bit more noticable if you have the windows down.As you accelerate towards 3000rpm there is a real metallic clatter which goes around 3200rpm when the injector note changes from pre to post injection.
Does this sound like classic injector noise? The car drives fine, averaging 47mpg to and from work and doesnt smoke.
If you blip the throttle on idle up to 2,500rpm like if you were doing an mot smoketest,it sounds ok but if you rev it to 3000rpm then it sounds like a real clatter/tappet noise and doesnt sound happy?
If you go through the gears normally up to 2,500 rpm and sit at 70-80 you'd never know there was a problem, but if you trying to overtake and holding onto the gears then its really noticeable

yeh thats exactly what its like its almost like an exhaust rattle but coming from the engine. Its really annoying at times int it, but i have noticed a slight drop in mpg over the past few weeks! yes2day i got 35 to a fiver, im wondering if i need some injector cleaner? hopefully its nothing costly as am out of work at the moment.

Think the concensus was worn injectors. Leak-off test required - this is DIY with a few quid spent.

Thanks :)

I found some reasonably priced injector sets from ebay, and i think i just go for those. Any tips for the injector change? I guess i need to get seal kit from the dealer, but does these require any injector coding?

Ive read around the web, and some places say that they need to be recoded like delphi, some says that you only need to reset the PCM, and some say just plug'em in, the PCM will learn the new injectors quite quick.
