Well I've just brought one of these on a 1999 plate, going to be mainly using it for towing, need to do the cambelt.

Is there anything I should watch out for, can anyone recommend a good chip & any other mods to increase bhp a bit?

Found in black cabs too! :) I'm afraid I don't know much about this engine but I'm sure it will respond to the usual mods. Exhaust, deCat, uprated intercooler and a remap ;) Lots of capacity there to play with too.

Where's closest with the best price for a remap on mine, was tempted on one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 4312wt_977

Already got the boost controller, induction kit & Meth kit ready to go on with a nice new service, I gather they are chain cambelts from looking on the net, also probably gonna run it on biodiesel as everything on the net points to it being fine on it.

I couldnt speak from 1st hand use on that 'tuning box' but I very much doubt that for £90 you'd be buying anything other than a box of resistors... Are these engines electronic injection then? '99 could be either or really. Buy DTE UK or DPT tuning boxes if you can't get a remap imo. Make sure you fit an EGT gauge too :).

I imagine they would be timing chains yes, not belts. Seems to be Nissan's way.

I only picked it up today, I've managed to find that they are indirect injection & run an AFM so guessing it's all electronic controlled.

Will have to look into the DTE & DPT tuning boxes.

I've got a '98 one with a Ford badge. They're actually gear-driven cams if my manual's anything to go by.

It's definitely EFI, the throttle's done by a little electric wossname that looks like a motor on the throttle pedal under the dash. So I've heard, an extra 25bhp and 50nM of torque are available from just a remap [how true this is, I don't know.] so there's plenty of scope for more poke.

I've 'lost' the plastic intake tube that goes from the airbox to under the wing and it seems to have given it a little bit more pick-up once it hits about 1800rpm. I've had 103 out of mine [It's a LWB, so lots of weight to get rolling] on private roads and it does struggle getting there once you've passed 95.

Let me know what boost controller you're running and how well it works. Need to start playing with mine once I get some funds.

Oh, and does the 'box on yours rattle when it's in neutral at idle?

I must admit I haven't noticing the box rattling on idle yet.

I'm a bit unsure on raising the boost at the moment as they are very high compression, gonna get the other mods fitted first, I reckon the induction kit will give a good gain as the feed to the air box looks very restrictive.
I've got to work out which fuel system I've got first before I order a tuning box, although going to start fitting the methanol kit this weekend.

Nice. Keep us posted on how that goes and how much more lively it gets.

I'll be doing things the cheap [ish] way for more air flow. Got some hole cutters I'll be digging out to turn the airbox into swiss cheese, then fit a replacement K&N once funds allow. Should be a laugh. =D

Well induction kit is on, made a little bit of difference.

Methanol kit is half fitted will finish on saturday, along with fitting the tuning box i've now got and will adjust the actuator a little to increase the boost.

I'll post some pics soon.

If it's the same engine as my TX1, (london taxi), ie Nissan 2.7 td, non turbo then it doesn't have a cambelt or chain, it has wheels/cogs, they don't get replaced.
My engine is still going well after 370k miles, original everything, apart from water pump.
Service it regularly, i do mine every 5k, 10/30 or 15/40 if it smokes.

Paul.

Will post pics tomoz of the induction kit on (£5 jobby), tuning box & Meth kit.
Have also treated her to new fuel filter, oil & oil filter + thermostat as the muppet owner before had removed it instead of replacing it when it wasn't opening properly.
